ENO Transportation Fellowship Recipient

Shain Eversley, received the prestigious Eno Transportation Foundation Fellowship. He was one in twenty fellows selected from across the country.    The Foundation focuses on all modes of transportation with the mission of cultivating creative and visionary leadership for the sector.  It allows recipients to gain further knowledge of transportation and infrastructure as well as an understanding of the U.S. policymaking process through the following:  conducting research under the guidance of Eno’s President and CEO; collaborating with transportation experts on publications; and assisting in the execution of programs conducted by Eno’s Center for Transportation Leadership.

Shain is a planned December 2011, graduate in Transportation Planning and Management whose research focus is An Optimization of On-Street Parking and Promotion of Alternate Forms of Transportation for Washington, DC.

After one week of intensive exposure to higher level transportation officials in Washington DC, Shain had this to say to his CTTR mentors, Dr. Carol Lewis and Gwendolyn Goodwin:

“Last week gave me several perspectives on transportation issues.  I got to understand what’s important to the transportation industry from the public, private, and industry association perspectives.  Additionally, one of the most interesting sessions I attended was on Tuesday morning, where the ENO board divided the students into groups according to our research topics and had us present our research for Industry professionals.  The group I was placed in was “Metropolitan Issues”.  The industry representatives we presented to were Mariia Zimmerman, Deputy Director for Sustainable Communities, Office of Sustainable Housing and Communities, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and Jennifer Mitchell, Principal Consultant with Parsons Brinckerhoff.  The feedback that I received from my presentation was great and I even received some information that should be helpful to me during this internship as the paper I presented and this internship are quite similar.  It was also fascinating to learn about the other student’s research and see how it compared to my own. The opportunity to interact with the other ENO Fellows and the networking was priceless.  This session only solidified the fact that the education we are receiving at TSU is world class!”
