TSU Physics major becomes medical doctor

Zayne A.S. Belal graduated from the Texas Tech University Health Science Center School of Medicine on 22 May 2021. He will begin his residency in radiation oncology in the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania in June 2021. Dr. Belal is a Texas Southern University 2016 alumnus with a B.S. degree in physics.

He obtained an B.A. degree in economics from the University of Southern California before enrolling at TSU to take additional courses in preparation for the MCAT in the Fall 2012 semester.  In 2015, he interned with medical physicist, Dr. Stephen M. Avery, at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in the Radiation Oncology Department during the summer via scholarship support from the TSU Medical Health Physics Program, which was funded by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission.  Dr. Belal worked in the Radiation Physics Department during his gap year 2016 – 2017 at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX.
