Texas Southern University Students Shine at Breakbulk Americas Conference

Students and faculty from Texas Southern University’s Department of Transportation Studies proudly represented TSU at the Breakbulk Americas Conference Education Day on Thursday, October 2, 2025. Breakbulk Americas is the largest trade event in the region focused on project cargo and breakbulk logistics, bringing together leading professionals from across the global supply chain—including freight forwarders, carriers, ports, and equipment providers.

During Education Day, TSU students engaged with industry experts through presentations, guided tours of the exhibition floor, and hands-on workshops designed to deepen their understanding of global logistics and transportation operations. A highlight of the event was TSU undergraduate student Carter Henson’s participation as a featured speaker, where he shared insights about his journey and experiences at TSU. His presentation was a proud moment for our maritime program and an inspiration to fellow students.

TSU students also achieved top honors in the conference’s Research Poster Competition. Graduate students Myles Henson, Princess Kanu, and Shatora Brown won First Place for their project “Domestic Alternatives for EV Production: A Feasibility Study for Moving Automotive Production to the United States.” Additionally, Erin Cyan Wilson, Carolina Soto James, and Goodness Usoro received Honorable Mention for their research on “Mega Port Expansion vs. Legacy Infrastructure.” Both research projects are under the advisement of Dr. Alfred Henson.

These accomplishments demonstrate the talent, innovation, and professionalism of our students, and we are also deeply grateful to our Maritime faculty for their continued dedication and support in advising our students. Their mentorship plays a vital role in our students’ success and the ongoing growth of the TSU maritime program.
