Mission and Vision

The Department of Environmental and Interdisciplinary Sciences (EIS) offers the following Degrees,Master of Science (M.S. thesis and non-thesis) and Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Environmental Toxicology. The teaching facilities, research facilities, and faculty members for the Department are housed on the 3rd
floor of TSU Science Center with the Department Office located in Room 319. In addition, the department offers the general education undergraduate course
in Geology (GEOL 141).

Financial support is awarded competitively to Ph.D. students in the way of Fellowships (up to $20,000/year), graduate tuition fellowships, and TA positions
(for the Geology course within EIS as well as limited numbers of biology and/or chemistry TA positions). M.S. students are eligible to compete for graduate
tuition fellowships and TA positions.

The department is currently developing a Bachelors of Science (B.S.) in Environmental Science and Technology which is planned to be

The Environmental Toxicology program within the Department of EIS is designed to prepare students for:

• Professional careers in industry, government, and higher education
• Conducting environmental impact and risk assessments
• Conducting environmentally relevant research in the biological, chemical, or physical sciences
• The ability to anticipate, recognize, evaluate, and recommend action on a wide spectrum of environmental problems.
• Applying their knowledge in the remediation of contaminated waste sites.
• Independent, hypothesis-driven research

Mission

The Department of Environmental and Interdisciplinary Sciences (EIS), offering both M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Environmental Toxicology to a diverse student
body, provides meaningful, high-quality graduate education to our students through courses, seminars, journal clubs, and independent research using
technical instrumentation. Our research programs are designed to provide basic science training in areas that address urban concerns that have impacts on
both environmental and human health. Furthermore, our research programs are designed to provide our students with the necessary expertise and skills to
gain meaningful employment in academia, industry, and governmental agencies, ultimately becoming leaders in their respective fields.

In order to achieve this mission, EIS provides:

  biological systems, and computational modeling.
