{"id":6,"date":"2016-11-14T22:21:11","date_gmt":"2016-11-15T04:21:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/coset.tsu.edu\/chemistry\/chairs-message\/"},"modified":"2021-10-19T12:40:17","modified_gmt":"2021-10-19T17:40:17","slug":"chairs-message","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/coset.tsu.edu\/chemistry\/chairs-message\/","title":{"rendered":"Chair&#8217;s Message"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Department of Chemistry seeks to fulfill two primary missions: (1) to prepare students for professional careers in Chemistry and, eventually, graduate study; and (2) to give students, who are majoring in related fields, an understanding of fundamental principles and experimental techniques that will permit them to be successful in their chosen concentrations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through the Department of Chemistry, courses (CHEM) are offered at the undergraduate level for students pursuing the Bachelor of Science Degree (B.S.) in Chemistry, for students majoring in other disciplines wishing to pursue a minor in Chemistry, and for students in other academic areas requiring some preparation in Chemistry. Although only one undergraduate degree (the Bachelor of Science in Chemistry) is offered, three concentrations leading to this degree are possible for majors: (1) an American Chemical Society (ACS) approved concentration, (2) a pre-medical and a pre-dental concentration and (3) forensic chemistry concentration. Each concentration are composite programs of study, and neither concentration requires the declaration of an official minor in another academic discipline. The ACS approved concentration is designed to prepare students for professional careers as chemists and to ensure their preparation for graduate study. As a member of the <a href=\"https:\/\/chemistry.tsu.edu\/chemistrys-student-organizations\/\">ACS and NOBCChE<\/a>, you\u2019ll never be out of touch with what\u2019s going on in the chemistry community. You\u2019ll have the opportunity to network with chemistry professionals and join communities specific to your interest. Maybe you\u2019ll find your dream job, meet your mentor, or co-author a groundbreaking publication. However you see fit, the ACS and NOBCChE allow you to succeed and thrive in an ever-changing global economy. The department offers state of the art instrumentation such as NMR, LC-MS, GC-MS, UV-Vis, SEM, HPLC and ICP-MS to train you for careers in chemistry.\u00a0 Don\u2019t wait any longer to join our TSU chemistry family. Faculty Members of the Department are housed on the fourth floor of the New Science Building with the Department Office located in Suite 403. Students are encouraged to apply for support through the John B. The admission criteria, requirements, and graduate courses associated with this degree are described in the Graduate School Bulletin of Texas Southern University.
